6 Best Glasgow Earwax Removals to Clear Things Up (Literally)

Professional Expertise – We prioritised clinics with HCPC-registered audiologists, trained microsuction specialists, or ENT nurses.

Equipment & Technique – We chose clinics using proper operating microscopes, suction equipment, or irrigation systems.

Comfort & Customer Experience – We favoured clinics that made the experience less awkward, providing clear explanations, a calm environment, and zero judgement.

Pricing & Transparency – We selected places with clear pricing and no surprise add-ons.

Finding a good earwax removal clinic shouldn’t feel so complicated.

You start with mild annoyance, then a few days later, you’re tilting your head like a broken toy trying to hear people properly, and by the time you finally book something, the dull pressure in your ear has gotten worse.

So we decided to test out several earwax removal clinics across Glasgow: microsuction specialists, audiology centres, and even local pharmacies that offer clinical services.

We found the best professionals you can trust and won’t have you worried when they poke around your ear canal.

Glasgow Ear Clinic is a private ENT-focused service led by Dr. Matthew Wickham, a GP with a specialist interest in Ear, Nose, and Throat care. With 17 years of experience serving patients across the West of Scotland, the clinic is positioned as a convenient option for individuals seeking faster access to specialist-led ENT support.

A key strength of the clinic is Dr. Wickham’s ENT expertise, supported by qualifications including MRCS (ENT) and DOHNS. His background allows for detailed assessment of ear-related concerns such as hearing loss, tinnitus, blocked ears, dizziness, and ear infections, alongside broader ENT conditions affecting both adults and children.

Ear wax microsuction is one of the clinic’s core services, offered for both adults and children at £70 for both ears per session. Microsuction is presented as a safe, precise, and specialist-led method of wax removal that also allows direct visual examination of the ear canal during treatment.

The earwax removal service is integrated into a broader consultation model, with 30-minute new consultations and 15-minute follow-up appointments available where needed. This structure allows patients to receive more comprehensive ENT assessment if symptoms extend beyond simple wax build-up.

Accessibility is another practical advantage of the clinic, with ground-floor disabled access and nearby parking available for patients. This makes appointments easier to attend, particularly for individuals experiencing discomfort, mobility concerns, or urgent ear-related symptoms.

Beyond ear wax removal, Glasgow Ear Clinic also supports a wider range of ENT services including hearing assessments for children, nosebleeds, tongue tie procedures, and ongoing ear care management. The clinic’s combination of specialist knowledge, transparent pricing, and patient-focused care helps create a more streamlined private ENT experience.

Patients interested in seeing the microsuction process can watch their ear wax removal video. Appointments can also be booked directly online.

Pros

  • Offers ear wax microsuction performed in a clinical, specialist-led setting
  • Clear pricing structure with defined consultation and treatment costs
  • Convenient access with on-street parking and ground floor disabled entry
  • Covers a wide range of ENT and related conditions, including children’s services

Cons

  • Private pricing may be expensive compared to NHS services

The procedure was done as quickly as possible

“We recently visited Dr Wickham at Glasgow Ear Clinic for an assessment and release of our 1 year olds tounge tie. Dr Wickham was very knowledgeable and confident in his practice making us feel at ease. The procedure was done as quickly as possible and we had been spoken through all of it before hand. Dr Wickham answered all of our questions and was really good with our son.

Would definitely recommend.”

He was so professional, thorough and kind

“We saw Dr Wickham for a consultation about my 3mo daughter’s tongue tie. He was so professional, thorough and kind and answered all our questions and concerns before performing the tongue tie release. Within minutes bub was happily nursing again with a much improved latch. I couldn’t recommend GEC enough if you are concerned that your little one has a tongue tie.”

Boots may not be the first place you think of for ear care, but their Hearingcare clinics surprised us in the best way. The setup feels familiar and unintimidating; you’re not walking into a hospital-like room, just a quiet consultation booth tucked inside the store.

During our visit, the clinician was reassuring without being overly formal. The procedure was quick, and they showed a live view of the ear canal beforehand, which was oddly fascinating and mildly embarrassing.

The downside is that appointments fill up fast, and since it’s part of a corporate chain, the experience can vary depending on the branch and clinician.

Pricing is mid-range, but you’re paying for brand reliability, so overall, Boots is a great choice if you want something simple, fuss-free, and located in multiple parts of the city.

Pros

  • Easy to book and widely accessible
  • Clear explanations for first-timers
  • Reliable clinical standards

Cons

  • Experience varies per location
  • Slots get booked quickly

1st class service…

My advisor Kenny was fantastic , he made me feel at ease within seconds into my appointment right until I left. He was excellent at his job explaining all about what I should expect from my experience at your hearing clinic. I even called another relative on the way home to see if he could help her with her hearing problems.1st class service most impressed

Hidden Hearing sits comfortably in the middle: professional enough to feel safe, friendly enough that you’re not stiff in your chair, and well-equipped enough to handle most wax issues. The reception staff are welcoming too, so that’s always a good bonus.

Microsuction is their default, and they walk you through the before-and-after images (always perfectly icky and satisfying). The procedure takes around 15 minutes, and they’re good at managing people who get nervous when they hear the suction noise for the first time.

Pricing is fair for the service, though it’s not the cheapest option on this list. If you want a clinic that balances professionalism and friendliness, Hidden Hearing is a comfortable middle ground.

Pros

  • Friendly, reassuring staff
  • Quick appointments

Cons

  • Not as detailed as specialist clinics

Very professional but warm…

Just had an appointment with Kirsty at Hidden Hearing for some ear wax removal. She was like a breath of fresh air. Very professional but warm, engaging and the whole process was easy, gentle and well carried out. Kirsty is a real credit to the team as is Sheila on the front desk who is equally engaging and friendly. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Left feeling reassured.

Visited for a free hearing test. I was concerned about my hearing due to my brother recently being given bad news about his hearing. The lady I met was lovely , she explained everything and was very thorough. She also went through my results even though they were fine (no loss) to explain them. Left feeling reassured.

The Hearing Clinic feels like the “premium” option, not in a flashy way but in the sense that everything is done thoroughly and confidently.

The clinicians are some of the most experienced in Glasgow, with over 50,000 patients treated. The clinic is run by a third-generation family of hearing specialists with decades of expertise.

I accompanied my friend here, and during her testing, the audiologist explained the process in a calm, patient manner, which helped her calm her nerves. The staff also gave her clear aftercare instructions, which is a testament to the Hearing Clinic’s thoroughness.

The price is on the steeper end, but it feels reasonable given the thoroughness. If you want a clinic where you feel truly cared for (so much that you get attached), this is a strong pick.

Pros

  • Extremely thorough assessment
  • Over 50,000 patients treated

Cons

  • Not the cheapest

The ear microsuction experience was superb with zero discomfort…

The ear microsuction experience was superb with zero discomfort and the practitioner

Sakina was so reassuring and kind explaining everything to me. I was impressed too having a thorough hearing test done after procedure for removal of earwax from both my ears. Sakina is excellent and was very professional also caring. I definitely shall return to Glasgow clinic should need arise and recommend completely.

I could hear clearly again within minutes.

My second visit to the clinic for ear wax removal. Monica dealt with it quickly and easily as before and I could hear clearly again within minutes.

Over the last few years, I have attended NHS clinics for wax removal, but had to wait many weeks for appointment.

A friend recommended the clinic to me, and I no longer have to experience muffled hearing for any length of time as appointments have been readily available.

Specsavers wins for value. If you’re on a budget or simply want a reliable option that doesn’t cost much, this is hard to beat.

Microsuction is offered in most branches, though some locations still use irrigation depending on the clinician and equipment.

During our visit, though, we got the microsuction treatment, and the experience isn’t as personalised as the independent clinics. However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, since I just wanted the blockage sorted ASAP. It’s fast, effective, and easy to book.

The downside: you may feel a bit rushed during busy hours, and the consultation rooms vary in size and comfort. But for price-conscious customers, it’s excellent value.

Pros

  • Most affordable high-street option
  • Quick service
  • Multiple branches across Glasgow

Cons

  • Slightly rushed during peak hours
  • Less personalised care

There was no time wasting.

I attended specsavers sauchiehall Street for hearing test .The standard of customer service in this store was very high. There was no time wasting .The staff had impeccable manners and the audiologist was excellent .I would be back to this store no bother .Well done to all who work here.

Really friendly and helpful staff…

Really friendly and helpful staff in a welcoming professional store. I had managed to bend the hinge on my glasses and thought they were irretrievable. Not so. The young man who assisted was excellent. It was no trouble to him and he reassured me that he would do his best. He did. Glasses all back to normal. Thank you

Ear Care Glasgow (in partnership with Quantum Health) was the place my friend suggested when I had stubborn earwax in my right ear (disgusting, I know). When I went in, the receptionist greeted me warmly, and the clinic was calm even when I wasn’t.

What I appreciated the most was that my audiologist didn’t rush. She checked both ears even though I only complained about one, and she explained what caused the blockage.

The whole thing was done in 20 minutes, and I walked out with supersonic hearing! Kidding.

The only inconvenience is that their weekends book up fast, so opt for a weekday appointment or call ahead of time. Other than that, while they’re not as affordable as others, Ear Care Glasgow is meticulous, friendly, and clearly good at what they do.

Pros

  • Warm and expert staff
Great value for level of care

Cons

  • Weekend appointments are hard to get

Honestly, great service!

Went to Ear Care Glasgow to get my ears cleaned — honestly, great service! Super friendly and explained everything so I knew what was happening. Place was really clean too. Would definitely recommend if you need your ears sorted!

The staff were friendly, professional, and made me feel completely at ease.

Visited due to blocked ears and was really impressed with the service. The staff were friendly, professional, and made me feel completely at ease. I was genuinely shocked by how much wax had built up — the difference afterwards was amazing! Very happy with the treatment and would definitely recommend.
