Perfect your swing with the 5 best golf coaches in Glasgow!

  • Proper credentials and beginner focus - We look for recognised coaching certifications or affiliations (PGA Professional Status, Safegolf accreditation, etc.), and always ask if they specialise in beginners, not just low-handicap players.
  • Lesson formats that fit how the client wants to learn - We check for various formats being offered: private 1-to-1, small group clinics, short-game sessions, and on-course lessons, so clients can move from drills to real-course play.
  • Clear teaching, tech support, and real progress goals - We prefer coaches who use video or launch monitors to explain what’s happening, and who can communicate without jargon. They should set clear short-term goals to show what progress is like.
  • Fair pricing, flexible slots, and solid feedback - We compare lesson lengths, packages, and prices, especially beginner bundles. We get feedback from past clients to see if they improved. We also looked into flexible schedules for busy clients.

I’ve officially graduated from mini golf chaos to proper beginner ambitions, and Glasgow suddenly feels full of real golf coaches who actually teach fundamentals instead of just fixing slices!

This review rounds up the most reputable golf coaches in Glasgow so I can finally learn the game properly, not just survive a social round. It also aims to match goals to the right format and teaching style (first-time juniors or improving players) before you commit to a coach.

How much does a golf coach charge in Glasgow?

Most beginner golf lessons in Glasgow sit in a fairly predictable range: £10 to £40 per session for group or intro clinics, and £20 to £30 for 30 minutes/£50 to £50 per hour for private 1-to-1 lessons with a PGA professional.
More advanced coaching or swing analysis studios can reach over £75 per hour, but for most new golfers, a realistic budget is around £20 to £60 per lesson (with better value if you book lesson packages).

Craig Dickie Golf was exactly what I was hunting for as an adult learner who wanted proper, personalised coaching (not just generic tips). My 1-to-1 lesson with this coach was built around my actual swing characteristics.

I finally felt like someone was coaching the real me, not a template golfer. I liked the way my coach explained things clearly, then backed them up with simple swing analysis so I could see what needed fixing instead of guessing.

We set realistic short-term goals for grips, setup, and contact. Those made my progress feel structured and achievable.

I also appreciated the flexible lesson formats beyond private sessions, including technique work and playing-style coaching. They bridged the gap to real course situations and suited my schedule well.

As for pricing and lesson length, both were made clear to me before I booked, which mattered when I was comparing them to other Glasgow golf coaches. Most importantly, the coach clearly works with adult beginners and improving players, and has recognised coaching credentials.

That said, evening or weekend slots are quite popular and tend to fill up fast, so booking ahead is a must.

Pros

  • Highly personalised 1-to-1 coaching
  • Clear use of video/swing analysis
  • Strong focus on adult beginners and improvers
  • Structured goal-setting for each session

Cons

  • Popular time slots book out quickly
  • Better suited for technique-focused learners than social golfers
  • 1-to-1 sessions can be pricier

I can’t praise him enough

Craig has been coaching my son for nearly 5 years now, and I can’t praise him enough. Not only has he helped him build his game and his confidence and always found new ways to challenge him and keep him engaged, but he has also built up a great relationship with him over the years. You’ll be in good hands with Craig.

His outlook as a coach is inclusive

Craig is a great coach; he manages to patiently put up with my constant messing about with my swing and patiently sorts out my self-induced “fixes”. His outlook as a coach is inclusive, and he encourages clients to discuss their own good and bad traits and nourishes the golfing community that he has created.

My nephew, a keen junior player, started his golf journey with Clydeway Golf Performance Centre, as his dad wanted a place that genuinely develops skills. The Junior Academy and group coaching sessions gave him structured lessons with age-appropriate sessions right from the start.

What made it serious for him was the Trackman and SAM Putt Lab Technology built into the lessons. They allowed the young man to see the real data behind his swing improvements, which made them set measurable goals each week.

The centre offers junior individual lessons, junior packages, and group classes that fit around school schedules, with pricing that felt fair for the tech and coaching quality provided. It also pairs well with custom fitting and practice on the floodlit driving range, so his golfing enthusiasm didn’t wane even in the darker months.

The PGA professionals there communicated with both his dad and him, so they always had an idea what he needed to work on next. They both liked the facility, which was like a one-stop performance hub of coaching, trackable progress, and practice bays under one roof.

However, junior classes can fill up fast, so you’ll need to book well in advance to secure a spot. Some of the more advanced tech-support sessions, like detailed swing analysis, are also priced higher than basic group coaching.

Pros

  • Runs structured junior pathways and holiday camps
  • Multi-coach team onsite
  • Strong junior safeguarding and coaching environment
  • Easy progression into equipment support and custom fitting

Cons

  • Coaching is largely studio and range-based (limited true on-course play)
  • Less flexible for one-off casual or drop-in sessions

He takes the time to explain concepts clearly

Craig has been an amazing golf coach, especially for a beginner. His patience and ability to make lessons interactive have really boosted my confidence. He takes the time to explain concepts clearly and provides useful feedback to correct my mistakes without making me feel overwhelmed. I always leave lessons feeling more confident and with a better understanding of the game. Craig’s approach has made learning golf enjoyable and has helped me make steady progress!

Best lesson I’ve had and truly honest professionals

Went in thinking I needed new irons and was given a short lesson instead, as my swing was the problem. Best lesson I’ve had and truly honest professionals. Can’t be beaten for service and a great range of brands.

Great Western Golf was where my colleague recommended if I want to tighten my long game and short game mechanics (should I become an intermediate player…cross fingers).

The coaching team there combines PGA-qualified pros and actual Trackman swing analysis for real data. The 1-to-1 lessons are tailored to the client’s specific swing issues, while the Trackman tech lets you understand why your ball flies the way it does.

The coaches also break down swing plane, contact, and ball flight in ways that even non-techy players can grasp quickly. But I especially appreciated the purpose-built short game area where I can practice chipping, pitching, bunker shots, and putting in one structured space.

It became quickly clear to me that this centre isn’t just a range, but something designed to help players like me improve scoring shots and not just hit things farther. There’s also a friendly, busy vibe with multiple pros available most days and evenings.

However, the range can feel crowded at peak times (weekdays at 5 to 8 PM and most weekend afternoons), which might distract golfers from focused coaching unless they book a quieter slot.

Pros

  • Purpose-built short game area
  • Trackman-powered driving range
  • Multiple PGA-qualified pros with various lesson options
  • On-site amenities (shop and cafe)

Cons

  • Size and popularity = the place can get busy during peak times
  • Trackman-enhanced lessons are pricier than basic range coaching

Customer Reviews

Within 10 minutes of my first lesson with David, I was put at ease

As a complete beginner, I was nervous about starting to play golf, but within 10 minutes of my first lesson with David, I was put at ease, enjoying some expert tuition, and even after that first lesson was already noticing a difference. David drilled down on all of the fundamentals, but explained them in a manner that was easy to pick up, and most importantly, enjoyable. The facilities at Great Western Golf are great, but my lessons would have been poor in significance if it weren’t for David’s expert eye and ability to ‘get on the same level’. Absolutely first class, would recommend to anyone of any abilities. Now to get out there and tear it up!

David McCallum Golf at Old Course Ranfurly delivered exactly what my experienced brother wanted when he was sharpening his technique and competitive edge. As a PGA-qualified pro since 1997 and a certified Elite Performance Coach, his lessons are structured yet refreshingly simple.

He focuses on his 4 Magic Moves system that stripped my brother’s swing mechanics down to what really matters. From the first session, he saw how clearly goals were set; they discussed what he wanted to improve, then analysed his swing using video and launch monitor tools.

These highlighted where he was losing power and consistency. He said the coaching felt technical but not overwhelming, with a focus on repeatable moves that can be practised between sessions for real progress.

A standout feature there is the wide range of group workshops and specialised classes, including ES2D draws, fade training, bunker work, and putting refinement. They’re all grounded in serious performance coaching rather than basic instruction.

Communication was strong throughout, as well. David explained complex mechanics in clear terms and tailored drills to my brother’s competitive goals.

The facility also offers a driving range, indoor studio, short game practice and a bunker area, so he could test changes immediately on multiple elements of the game.

But because of David’s experience and reputation, popular weekend lesson slots can be in high demand and harder to book. His coaching style is also technical and specific, which may not suit players who just want a casual or very relaxed session.

Pros

  • Decades of elite coaching experience
  • Uses a proprietary system to simplify mechanics
  • Strong emphasis on competitive refinement
  • Offers specialised workshops

Cons

  • High demand means peak slots fill up fast
  • Premium services are more expensive than basic lessons

I’m heading in the right direction!

Just wanted to post a thanks, David – after my recent lessons and a couple of pointers from you, I had no 3 putts, about 3 or 4 single putts and generally played more solid golf in the medal yesterday. Net 70 is encouraging and heading in the right direction!

He keeps things simple and easy to follow

Have had 2 lessons with David. He keeps things simple and very easy to follow. I’m already saving shots at holes. If you are thinking about having a lesson, contact David. You won’t regret it!

5. Karyn Burns Golf

My partner finally decided that 3-putts were officially not part of the plan anymore, so he went to Karyn Burns to coach him. From the first lesson, it was clear that Karyn’s strength lies in short game and putting mechanics, breaking down setup and stroke in a way that made sense to someone stuck in old habits.

Her approach combines clear communication with simple drills that my partner could practice between rounds, and she used video feedback and on-green observation to show exactly where the alignment and tempo were drifting.

The progress was immediate. My partner noticed more putts getting close instead of rolling past the hole!

Karyn offers short game clinics, custom putting sessions, and 1-to-1 lessons, all tailored to the current performance level. She also gives straightforward homework that actually feels doable, which helped my partner stay focused and see real improvement in a few weeks.

There wasn’t just abstract golf theory, but a practical and results-oriented session with Karyn. Her teaching style made my partner understand why his putter face and path matter, instead of just being told to keep practising.

That said, putting-focused coaching is so popular that prime appointment times book up quickly. And if you’re mainly looking for a full-swing overhaul, her short-game speciality might mean fewer options.

Pros

  • Specialises in short game and putting mechanics
  • Uses video feedback and on-green drills
  • Provides practical, easy-to-apply homework

Cons

  • Advanced putting tools/pressure stimulation may cost extra
  • Tailored 1-to-1 focus may not be ideal for golfers preferring larger group clinics

Customer Reviews

A brilliant coach

Enjoyed my first lesson today with Karyn she is so good at what’s she does brilliant coach will continue practising the wee drill she has given me and will be back to see get again to see if I have improved. Would definitely recommend Karyn as a coach; you can see how passionate she is. Thanks for a great lesson!

Would give a 6 out of 5 if I could!

First short game lesson a couple of weeks ago, Karyn watched me play shots around the green and gave me simple advice. Second lesson 2 weeks later – bunkers and putting. Very easy to understand and implement the changes. Thanks to Karyn, my confidence within 50-60 yards of the pin has increased dramatically, with a drop in handicap from 16.2 to 13.5 in the last 3 weeks. Would give a 6 out of 5 if I could! Thanks, Karyn!
