Most employment lawyers in Glasgow charge about £195 to over £350 per hour plus VAT. Senior solicitors at bigger firms often charge more. Some firms also offer a fixed-fee first consultation for around £125 to £200.

My pal wanted a 12-month retainer for her HR team, so Just Employment Law felt built for that job. Rather than a grab-bag legal practice, their whole pitch is on a specialist employer-side employment law.

She likes how their retainer is sold as unlimited access to a fully qualified employment law solicitor for a fixed annual fee agreed in advance. That’s a strong fit for HR managers like her who need regular advice on disciplinaries, contracts, grievances, and fast-moving rule changes.

That also makes their pricing more transparent than their rivals. Even if they don’t publish a neat price table on their main retainer page, they openly offer fixed-fee arrangements (no obligation to renew!), hourly rates, and retained clients get ⅓ off normal hourly rates if litigation comes up.

Their employment law track record feels credible because that’s the only area that they do. Managing Director David McRae is a specialist with over 25 years of experience and a background in Employment Tribunal litigation across the UK.

My friend appreciates that they publish regular 2026 updates on statutory changes, as it makes her job at HR easier. 

However, the firm is clearly employer-only. So, while it’s brilliant for HR retainers, it’s not the place I would send an employee wanting claimant-side advice.
