The Glasgow Shutter Company is one of those local businesses I enjoy recommending. They only work with made-to-measure plantation shutters, which I like because it means they know their craft inside out.
You can go for full-height if you want total coverage, tier-on-tier for flexible light control, cafe style for street-facing rooms, or custom shapes for awkward windows. I’m a fan of their premium-grade hardwood for the natural polished look, but the polyvinyl option is good if you need something that can handle moisture.
Both come with a 10-year guarantee, which is quite impressive. They also offer free quotes, so you know the cost upfront.
The quality is clear, but they’re not the cheapest option, and you’ll be waiting around 12 to 16 weeks from order to installation.

I was on a tight budget, so I decided to go with Select Blinds & Shutters. They’ve been around since 1995 and run their own factory, making a good range of shutters, including full-height, tier-on-tier, and cafe style.
I used their free home measuring and fitting service to make it easier to choose the right option. I ultimately went for their perfect-fit shutters since my windows are small, and these take up less space than standard plantation styles.

The Blind Guy & Shutters caught my attention because they won the Scottish Home Improvement Awards in 2023. They stock the usual shutter styles but also offer electric shutters that you can control with a remote or your phone, which is a huge plus for convenience.
It’s reassuring that they’re part of the BBSA’s Make It Safe Campaign, so every fitting includes safety features to help protect children and pets. They also provide free measuring and consultation services, which makes it easier to choose the right shutters.
One thing that does bother me is the lack of a clear warranty policy. You have to go through their consultation to get an idea of what’s covered. They’re also busy with new orders, so you’re looking at around a month before they can fit your shutters once you book.
