5 Best Bookkeeping Services in Glasgow for Payroll & VAT Help

Proper credentials and software know-how - We looked for Xero or QuickBooks certification, plus ICB or AAT membership, so we know they are trained and up to date.

Strong client feedback - Positive testimonials matter because bookkeeping is all about reliability, accuracy, and being easy to deal with month after month.

Good cloud setup - We want someone who works with real-time cloud tools like Xero or Dext, so we can check cash flow and records on our phone without chasing updates.

The right service scope for the business - For various needs, we checked whether they just do bank reconciliation or can also handle payroll, credit control, VAT returns, and other day-to-day finance admin.

Running a business in Glasgow is hard enough without letting the books quietly gang up on you. I might not need a tax consultant for my day-to-day statements, but I do need someone to keep the ledgers clean, the payments tracked, and the HMRC off my back!

That’s when a good bookkeeping service in Glasgow is a must. They handle the daily money admin, keep VAT and payroll in order, and make sure Making Tax Digital doesn’t become another avoidable headache.

And even if I already use Xero and QuickBooks, I know software alone won’t catch every mistake or fix messy coding. Here are some solid Glasgow bookkeepers who can make sure those things don’t happen.

How much does bookkeeping cost in Glasgow?

In Glasgow, bookkeeping costs usually depend on whether you hire someone hourly or go for a monthly package. Freelance bookkeepers typically charge £20 to £35 per hour, while fixed monthly packages for basic bookkeeping, software use, and VAT returns often sit between £100 and £250 per month.

If you also need payroll handled, that’s usually charged on top as a small add-on, often at around £5 to £10 per employee per month. The more transactions, staff, or VAT complexity you have, the more likely you are to land at the higher end of the range.

1. Pinpoint Plus

Contact: +447866483126

Business hours: Monday to Friday, 9.30 AM–5 PM

Website

As a small business owner, I found Pinpoint Plus ideal, as I was tired of shoebox bookkeeping and wanted my numbers to be updated properly, every day. They’re a paperless, cloud-first outfit, which suits my need for cleaner records minus the finance admin tasks.

I liked how they lean into the modern systems rather than just sticking with basic data entry. They are Xero-certified advisors and a Xero Gold Partner, so they actively help businesses move away from outdated processes into cloud-based setups that are easier to manage in real time.

Service-wise, they cover the daily essentials well. They can do bookkeeping, VAT returns, CIS, payroll, credit control, supplier payments, and even virtual accounts department support. They’re great for updated records without needing to hire in-house.

I was convinced by the strong client feedback from businesses that praise their responsiveness, smooth Xero migrations, and reliable day-to-day support.

I also appreciated their offer of a free discovery call.

Pinpoint Plus is worth contacting if you want a Glasgow-based but digitally led team that can keep your books precise, current, and less of a daily headache.

That said, they’re more of a premium outsourced finance partner than a bargain-basement bookkeeper, especially if you need the broader virtual accounts department service.

Pros

  • Xero Gold Partner status
  • Broad day-to-day finance support
  • Free discovery call
  • Glasgow-based, UK-wide digital service

Cons

  • Not ideal for those looking for a traditional office feel
  • Might be more than a micro-business needs

They make things easy to deal with

Working with Pinpoint Plus has been a huge benefit to my business. I was running my own Xero account, but wanted more efficiency and certainty that everything was right in my accounts and payroll. The team at Pinpoint Plus have been efficient, responsive, and always helpful. They make things easy to deal with and give me confidence in my numbers. Their support has saved me time and allowed me to focus on my work in the construction industry. I’d happily recommend them to any business owner looking for reliable bookkeeping and accounts support.

Bookkeeping runs smoothly, and communication is excellent

After our long-standing bookkeeper retired, we had to try another service, but it just didn’t work for us, so we switched to Pinpoint Plus. Jacqui at Pinpoint Plus is incredibly dedicated to getting our overdue sales invoices back under control and leaving everything super tidy. They now keep it that way month to month. Bookkeeping runs smoothly, communication is excellent, and I’m confident everything is correct. Delighted with the service.

My Da wanted a clearer handle on the family business finances, not just at tax time, but in the day-to-day mess of transactions, payroll, and keeping the books straight. What made 1 Accountant a good fit was that they were built to help small businesses keep track of daily numbers while pulling everything together into proper financial statements.

He also liked how they didn’t come across as overly corporate or too big to bother with smaller firms. Being based in Glasgow City helped, but more importantly, they worked in a practical way that suited a business trying to stay organised without drowning in paper receipts.

He was reassured by how clearly the pricing was laid out, too. The fixed-fee packages made it easier to picture what support he would be getting, especially for bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and the wider compliance side.

In the end, it felt like a sensible option for a family business that needed both the daily tracking and the financial picture to be kept up to date. My Da reckons 1 Accountant is ideal for small business owners wanting tidy books, predictable costs, and no nasty surprises.

His only slight hesitation is that the service feels quite package-led, so it may suit straightforward ongoing support better than very tailored, one-off bookkeeping.

Pros

  • Clear fixed-fee packages
  • Good fit for family businesses
  • Useful extras bundled into higher packages

Cons

  • Less ideal for bespoke bookkeeping-only help
  • Xero is not included across every package

They handle my bookkeeping, payroll, and annual accounts flawlessly

I’ve been working with The 1 Business Group for over two years, and they’ve been exceptional. They handle my bookkeeping, payroll, and annual accounts flawlessly, keeping everything running smoothly. What sets them apart is their personal approach and deep business insight. Noemaan doesn’t just file paperwork—he helps me plan for growth, manage cash flow, and boost profitability. It’s rare to find an accountant who truly supports business growth, but that’s exactly what these guys do.

The 1 Business Group completely revamped our financial systems

From day one, the experience was exceptional. Noemaan and his team at The 1 Business Group completely revamped our financial systems, implemented monthly management reports, and assisted us in securing finance for a new vehicle fleet. Their attention to detail and business insight are outstanding. They go well beyond typical accountancy services — it genuinely feels like having a financial partner invested in your growth. I’d recommend them to any business owner serious about expansion.

3. Callan Accountancy

Address: 21, 23 Woodside Pl

Contact: +441412040930

Business hours: Daily, 9 AM–5 PM

Website

Callan Accountancy was the firm my best pal turned to, mainly because they didn’t force every business into the same bookkeeping rhythm. Instead, they offer weekly, monthly, and quarterly bookkeeping options (ideal for support that matches how busy his cash flow gets).

He liked that they came across as hands-on rather than flashy, thanks to a practical cloud-accounting setup behind the scenes. They’re a QuickBooks Pro Advisor and can get businesses ready for Making Tax Digital.

My friend reckons that Callan Accountancy is worth a look if you want flexible bookkeeping in Glasgow without your books turning into a quarterly jump scare. They handle bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll, CIS returns, and management accounts.

They’re good for small businesses that want flexible support levels, especially if weekly bookkeeping one month and a lighter touch the next. This is a more realistic situation, instead of relying on one rigid package.

The main drawback is that their terms make clear that monthly standing orders do not automatically mean a fixed-fee arrangement for all work, so my friend suggests having the scope pinned down in writing first.

Pros

  • Flexible bookkeeping cadence
  • Strong cloud and MTD angle
  • Helpful for wider admin work
  • Free no-obligation consult

Cons

  • More accountancy-led than pure bookkeeping
  • Final costs can be less predictable than a simple fixed package

Stephen has been excellent from the beginning

Stephen has been excellent from the beginning. Explained everything from top to bottom and is always available either by phone or email regarding my Ltd company. Expedited my self-assessment for me not to incur any HMRC charges and unfroze my bank account. Very friendly and very professional. Overall, I would recommend and am satisfied with Callan Group!

He took time to really explain how taxes worked

I approached Callan Financial Group in need of support with my self-assessment and some queries I had on expenses, etc. Stephen was more than helpful and very patient throughout the whole process. He took time to really explain how taxes worked and was really helpful from start to finish. I won’t hesitate to return to them in the future!

4. DS Accountancy

Address: Suite 1, 09 33 Dalmarnock Rd, Bridgeton

Contact: +441416347480

Business hours:

Monday to Thursday, 9.30 AM–5 PM

Friday, 9.30 AM–4 PM

Website

I felt that DS Accountancy was a sensible way to test the bookkeeping waters because they actively invite you to schedule an appointment. This makes it easier for me to have that initial conversation before committing.

They are aimed at sole traders, partnerships, and small businesses, so the service already feels geared towards people who want practical bookkeeping support rather than big-firm theatricals. They offer bookkeeping as a wider small-business support setup rather than a cold, fully automated service.

Aside from that, they also handle VAT returns, payroll, sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. I also like how they lean into software use, utilising Sage-based support, which is great for sole traders aiming to keep their books tidy.

They’re conveniently located near the city centre, too. I found them friendly and approachable, with a smaller-business appeal rather than a giant package-led machine.

Do note that I would still make sure to get the scope and quote nailed down in writing after that first consultation, so everyone’s on the same page. There are no clear bookkeeping prices stated online, so it helps to be extra diligent.

Pros

  • Properly covers bookkeeping basics
  • Geared for small businesses
  • Straightforward initial conversation

Cons

  • Not a good fit for giant corporates
  • More broad small-business support than a pure bookkeeping boutique

Honest and very professional

I have been with DS Accountancy for 3 years, during which time I have started a new business. The service and advice I have received have been both honest and very professional. I get to sit down with Dominic and discuss many aspects of my business, which I have found very valuable. All this at a reasonable and competitive price. I couldn’t recommend it more.

He sorted out my tax discrepancies within a matter of a couple of weeks

I’ve only been working with DS Accountancy for around a month now, and I must say, Dominic is a wizard. He sorted out my tax discrepancies within a matter of a couple of weeks from the first appointment to the end. I’m extremely happy with the quality of service, and I have already recommended their services to anyone who will listen.

5. TaxAssist Accountants

Address: 159 West St, Kinning Park

Contact: +441412864400

Business hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM

Website

My former office went with TaxAssist Accountants. They’re clearly built for cloud accounting rather than old-school paper shuffling, which my ex-colleagues wanted to do away with entirely.

Their goal was to streamline everything with QuickBooks, Xero, and Dext, and the firm already spoke that language and can make a point of using secure online tools to keep the books moving.

They cover bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, and wider accounts support, so it’s not just an app recommendation with a login and a pat on the head. They’re suited for cloud accounting, growing small businesses, and offices that need real-time figures.

Thankfully, the old fogies at my old workplace were appeased with how they paired the tech with a local feel instead of acting like a faceless software reseller. To sweeten the deal, they also offered free consultations via video calls and jargon-free advice to small businesses, sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.

If there’s a drawback, it’s that their service feels broader than pure bookkeeping, so very small firms wanting only bare-bones bookkeeping may find their menu more full-service than necessary.

Pros

  • Strong app ecosystem
  • Free first meeting that’s easy to arrange
  • Backed by a larger national network

Cons

  • A broader scope than pure bookkeeping may feel unnecessary
  • Software support may vary by office team

I cannot recommend the service provided enough

I reached out to TaxAssist fairly last-minute in November 2025, for a tax return due for the period 2024/2025, having become highly dissatisfied with the service provided by my previous accountant. I cannot recommend the service provided enough, it was extremely efficient, responses to any correspondence were dealt with swiftly, and the staff are very courteous & polite at all times. All documentation regarding the calculation of the tax return due was provided in full and very detailed. Highly recommend, without any hesitation whatsoever, that you consider utilising this particular accountant’s office for all your tax needs.

Tax Assist was responsive, clear and got my tax return submitted smoothly

Bilal, Adnan and the team at Tax Assist were responsive, clear and got my tax return submitted smoothly before the deadline. Really appreciated the help and patience with the back-and-forth. Thanks!
