Get your groove on with the 5 best dance classes in Glasgow
I’ve been to enough dance studios in the city to know the difference between sweating for fun and getting rubbery legs all week. Now, I’m looking for a dance class in Glasgow that can sharpen my technique, especially in contemporary dance styles.
The good news is that the dance scene here has plenty of range. You’ll find flexible drop-ins for adults, proper youth academies, and structured courses across the West End, Southside, and City Centre.
For this review, I’m looking at classes that feel worth booking. Think good teachers, clear progression, fair pricing, and spaces where you can get your groove on past the warm-up phase.
How much is a dance class in Glasgow?
A dance class in Glasgow usually costs £9.50-£11 per drop-in. Subsidised community classes can start from £7 or even £3 to £5 with concessions.
Beginner blocks often cost £30 to £65 for 6 to 8 weeks. Monthly memberships are typically around £32 to £45, and studio hire ranges from £12 to £50 per hour.
Do note that most studios offer trial classes or new-member deals, too.
1. Shhh Studios

Address: Rosebank Building, 12 Somervell St, Cambuslang
Contact: +447939248003
Business hours:
Monday, 9 AM–7.30 PM
Tuesday to Wednesday, 9 AM–8 PM
Thursday to Friday, 9 AM–7.30 PM
Saturday, 9 AM–3 PM
My gallery colleague booked Shhh Studios for her hen party, but I didn’t have to worry about being part of an awkward shuffle. She exhibited confident bridal energy throughout, thanks to the themed routine, plus the bride-to-be doesn’t need to pay!
I liked how the studio feels built for mixed-confidence groups. They also run recreational dance and gymnastics classes for ages 2 and above, with technical training available, so it’s not just for party bookings and performance pros.
Since I was interested, I was happy to note that there’s a 50% off trial promo, so newcomers like me can test the waters before committing.
ClassForKids is booking available, which is pretty straightforward. Rather than a standard trial that’s free, there are trial options offered.
I’d recommend Shhh Studios for hen parties, kids, teens, and adults who want something fun, friendly, and confidence-building. It’s especially good for groups who care more about laughs, choreography, and good energy than intense physical training.
That said, serious adult contemporary dancers may find the offer a bit limited. If you’re one, you might want to compare them with more technique-focused Glasgow studios first.

The teachers are fantastic, patient and encouraging!
My daughter loves her dance & gymnastics class. The teachers are fantastic, patient and encouraging! She loves to attend both classes and can see her confidence growing; she loves to show us everything she’s been learning in class. Would recommend it for kids learning, confidence and socialising with other kids.

Teachers were lovely, encouraging, and helpful
The studio was absolutely brilliant, providing one-to-one lessons for my daughter, who is studying musical theatre, needed help with turns and cartwheels and some techniques for dance class. Teachers were lovely, encouraging, and helpful. She nailed her performance, thanks to all.

I wanted to level up my modern dance skills without being flung into panic choreography. Dance Glasgow felt like the solid middle ground for me.
They offer adult-only classes from Absolute Beginners to Advanced, with contemporary, ballet, barre, commercial, heels, and dance fitness on the menu.
The contemporary options are the big draw for me, with beginner and intermediate/advanced classes showing on its schedule. It’s the kind of place I’d recommend to adults who want actual progression, not just a sweaty hour.
I stumbled upon mentions of free trials on its socials and by word-of-mouth, plus block bookings and unlimited passes! I also appreciated the clear booking via its online timetable, with the studio offering workshops for dancers who want extra variety.
If you’re after choice, structure, and a friendly route back into dance, I reckon this studio is worth checking out. It’s especially good for anyone moving from casual classes into contemporary, jazz, ballet, or commercial styles with more intention.
The downside is that the business hours can feel irregular because the classes follow a timetable rather than standard shop-style hours. Popular slots need advance booking, as well, so spontaneous dancers may have to take their plies elsewhere.

Helped reconnect me with my love for dance
It is so rare to find such an inclusive, welcoming studio that offers dance classes to all skill levels. The teachers are all very knowledgeable and supportive; they help to make you feel comfortable, whether just starting your dance practice or trying a new style of dance. Dance Glasgow has helped reconnect me with my love for dance as an adult, and I’ve made so many great friends at the studio. Signing up for classes will always be at the top of my list whenever I am in Glasgow!

You’ll have so much fun!
The studio & teachers rock. They’ve got everything too: fitness classes, yoga, dance, stretching, etc. Plus, it’s at an affordable rate. Get there early if it’s your first time to find the location & get a spot up front. You’ll have so much fun & it’s a sweet community.

3. Academia de Salsa

Address: 333 Woodlands Rd
Contact: +447932010612
Business hours:
Monday, 6.30–9.30 PM
Tuesday, 6 PM–noon
Wednesday, 6.30–9.30 PM
Thursday, 6 PM–noon
Friday, 9 PM– noon
My parents booked Academia de Salsa to get ready for their wedding anniversary dance. Honestly, it beats panic-swaying to Ed Sheeran while everyone watches with their cake and champagne.
The studio’s beginner setup is friendly and practical, with classes grouped by level so couples can build confidence without needing prior experience.
Admittedly, the big draw for Mum and Da was the £60 unlimited package, which covers 6 weeks of classes and socials. Fast learners can attend as often as they like. Drop-ins are also allowed at £12.50 per session, which is handy for those who want to test one class first.
They also run weekly socials, plus private tuition and wedding packages for anyone who wants extra polish before a big event. Venues are spread across Glasgow, and some are child-friendly until 9 PM, so they feel more community-led.
I’d recommend Academia de Salsa to couples, nervous beginners, and anyone with a yen to learn faster by repeating classes instead of waiting a week between steps. I didn’t find a standard free trial, but the unlimited plan works like a strong promo, anyway.
The main con is that it’s salsa-focused, so it won’t suit those looking for contemporary, ballet, or commercial dance. Social venues can also feel busy, so shy beginners may prefer private tuition or quieter class slots first.

I now have the confidence to attend socials
I have absolutely loved going to Academia de Salsa over the last few months. I’ve made lots of dancing friends. Shannon’s teaching methods make learning Salsa a lot of fun. Even though I attend by myself, I have always had wonderful people who have been a joy to dance with. In class, I have now progressed from beginner to passable dancer. I can’t wait to learn more. I now have the confidence to attend socials and recently went to the annual vintage ball, which was spectacular.

All the teachers are very friendly
Academia De Salsa is the best salsa school in Glasgow. Six years ago, I started going to them to learn salsa. All teachers are very friendly and know how to teach. The owner is a very lovely, amazing lady. Shannon knows how to organise big balls on various topics. During the week, there are several salsa nights where you can meet new friends and have more dance practice in salsa. I very highly recommend it.

4. JaivaHouse

Address: 22 Jamaica St
Contact: [email protected]
Business hours: Tuesday, 6–7 PM
We get admittedly bored during lulls between art exhibit openings, so my work pals and I decided to book online dance classes at JaivaHouse.
The studio’s pre-recorded tutorials cover African foundation movements, rhythms, choreography tips, and styles like Afrofusion, Afrobeats, and Amapiano. Their booking page also lists Absolute Beginner and open-level choreography classes, so there’s a clear route from shy first steps to fuller dance routines.
We love how beginner-friendly the whole setup feels. The online format is especially handy for squeezing in movement without changing into full performance mode.
I’d recommend JaivaHouse to adults who want joyful Afro dance training, especially office groups, solo beginners, and anyone who prefers learning at home before braving a studio.
And while there’s no confirmed free trial or current promos on its official pages, their online library and Bookwhen setup make it easy to start small without overthinking it.
The main con for me is that it’s style-specific, so it won’t suit anyone seeking ballet, contemporary, or tap. The pre-recorded online dance classes also mean less live correction, which can slow progress if you want to fix your technique in real time.

It was great to have such adaptable teaching
It was incredible to have Chinyanta join us and teach at our cross-society dance series: decolonising dance (with live djembe drumming no less!) The energy was everything, and we really got to experience a brilliant introduction to Afro styles across the continent. For an open-level class, it was great to have such adaptable teaching as well as the opportunity to dance in groups and hype each other up. Looking forward to what we do next!

The atmosphere is always friendly and energetic
The classes are always enjoyable. Chinyata is such a great teacher. She breaks the steps down in such a simple way that one can follow, and we get to repeat the choreography several times. The atmosphere is always friendly and energetic, and the choreography is suitable for all levels. 10/10!

5. Indepen-dance

Address: Indepen-dance, 159-161 James St, Bridgeton
Contact: +441415523555
Business hours: Monday to Friday, 9.30 AM–5 PM
My niece, who has Additional Support Needs, has always wanted to express herself through dance. That’s why her parents think Indepen-dance is one of those rare places where her dreams are taken seriously.
They’re an award-winning, inclusive dance company for both disabled and non-disabled people, with classes built around creativity, access, and confidence rather than perfect lines and synchronisation.
What stood out to her Mum and Da was that the sessions are designed for people with disabilities and their carers in a safe, appropriate environment. The focus is on improvisation, moving together, and letting dancers participate in a way that fits their bodies and needs.
The pricing is also more community-minded than glossy-studio scary. Core classes are listed at £7, and specialist little-kid sessions are just from £4. The lower class fees already make it feel more accessible than most private studios, even without free trials.
They’re a great fit for disabled and non-disabled dancers, carers, families, and anyone dancing for expression, minus the intimidation. It’s especially good for kids, young people, and adults needing a genuinely inclusive space.
That said, it’s not ideal for students chasing mainstream exam grades, commercial choreography, or fast-track technical polish.
