5 Best Accountants in Glasgow for Business, Tax, and Peace of Mind

✔ Proper chartered qualifications - We checked if the firm is accredited by ICAS or ACCA, because that gives us confidence in their standards, ethics, and accountability.

✔ Strong client feedback - We looked for consistently good reviews, real word-of-mouth feedback and referrals that mention reliability, clear communication, and whether the firm was actually helpful when tax deadlines or business issues pop up.

✔ Relevant service range and specialisation - We want an accountant whose services match the job, whether it’s self-assessment, payroll, limited company accounts, ecommerce bookkeeping, audits, or property tax advice.

✔ Modern cloud accounting and proactive advice - We favour firms that work with Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent and do more than basic compliance, especially if they help with MTD readiness, tax planning, and business growth.

Going through the company registration process sounds exciting until the paperwork starts piling up on your desk. You’ll need help with payroll, HMRC compliance, cash flow, and cloud systems like Xero or QuickBooks so the business runs clean from day 1.

As someone with an accounting background, I’m here to testify that a good accountant is not just for the tax season, but for staying sane while everything gets set up properly.

If you’re in the commercial investigation stage, these are the Glasgow accounting firms worth looking at for transparent fees, practical advice, and real business support.

How much does an accountant in Glasgow charge?

In Glasgow, accountant fees usually depend on whether you need ongoing support or just a one-off job. For most small businesses, monthly retainers for bookkeeping, payroll, and year-end accounts typically cost around £100 to £250 per month.

For a one-off work, a Self-Assessment tax return usually costs about £150 to £300, depending on how straightforward it is.

If you run a limited company, year-end accounts and corporation tax filing often start at around £800 to £1,500 per year, while bespoke tax planning or consultancy with a senior chartered accountant typically costs £100 to £250 per hour.

As a new SME owner, I liked that KPP feels more like a modern growth-focused practice rather than an old-school paper-chasing firm. They position themselves as chartered accountants who work alongside ambitious businesses.

Their services range from compliance to higher-level advisory support. For keeping tax bills tight, KPP looks strong on the practical basics that matter early on.

They handle year-end accounts and corporation tax, with their small business service covering VAT filing, HMRC filing, payroll, and even one free director’s Self Assessment.

I also appreciate how they’re clearly set up for cloud working rather than making me drown in spreadsheets. KPP uses Xero cloud accounting and offers online booking for a first consultation, which suits startups and SMEs like mine that want things done efficiently.

They’re a solid pick for businesses needing a Glasgow base, given their convenient Rosyth Road location. I’d shortlist them for startups, SMEs, cloud bookkeeping users, and owners who want tax, payroll, and advisory help under one roof.

My main caution is that KPP leans into advisory and broader business support, so premium strategic input may cost more than a very basic startup package elsewhere.

Pros

  • Strong fit for SMEs, startups, contractors, landlords, etc.
  • Leans into cloud accounting
  • Offers a broad in-house mix of accounts, tax, payroll, bookkeeping, and audit
  • Focused on helping clients avoid overpaying tax and staying compliant

Cons

  • May not suit those looking for a bare-bones annual filing service
  • Not the most central walk-in location

Customer Reviews

They are by far the best firm I have dealt with in my time

Have worked with KPP over the past 3 years and can confidently say they are by far the best firm I have dealt with in my time. They are extremely helpful in all situations and continue to help and support my business in any way they can. Euan has also been great to work alongside and represents his company very well. Thanks again to all at KPP for the continued support and the great service they provide.

I am absolutely delighted with the service provided by KPP

I am absolutely delighted with the service provided by KPP. It is really refreshing to work with an accountancy company that is truly interested in their client’s needs, circumstances and preferences. What really impressed me was the way Stephen and his team take the time to get a feeling for what requirements our business needs, your depth of knowledge, lateral thinking and your common sense approach. KPP’s professional, ethical and caring demeanour elicits my trust and respect, and I gladly recommend your services whenever possible.

2. Callan Accountancy

Business hours: Daily, 9 AM–5 PM

My best bud wanted someone who could actually study his business and trim his tax bill, and Callan Accountancy rose to the occasion. He immediately liked their clear focus on helping businesses get organised and future-ready.

They’re well-suited for SMEs, limited companies, and cloud bookkeeping users who want more than basic form-filling. Callan covers corporation tax planning and helps clients reduce their tax bills—exactly the kind of tailored tax support my pal wants.

For day-to-day operations, they also offer bookkeeping and management accounts with weekly, monthly, or quarterly options. They also do payroll and CIS returns for firms needing regular admin support.

My friend recommends booking an initial consultation with them if you run an SME and need a firm that can handle tax, books, and growth-minded advice in one place. As a bonus, they also advertise a free consultation with no hard sell!

That said, I would make sure to ask for costs in writing before committing (they did say on their site that they’re not “cheap accountants”). Their own terms also mention extra charges in some cases, so startups on very tight budgets should check fees carefully.

Pros

  • Leans into carefully tailored tax planning
  • Weekly, monthly, or quarterly management accounts options
  • Free initial consultation
  • Also covers CIS returns

Cons

  • Bespoke support = higher pricing tier
  • Some services can trigger extra charges beyond base fees

Customer Reviews

They are always available either by phone or email

Stephen has been excellent from the beginning. Explained everything from top to bottom and is always available either by phone or email regarding my Ltd company. Expedited my self-assessment for me not to incur any HMRC charges and unfroze my bank account. Very friendly and very professional. Overall, I would recommend and am satisfied with Callan Group!

I won’t hesitate to return to them in the future!

I approached Callan Financial Group in need of support with my self-assessment and some queries I had on expenses, etc. Stephen was more than helpful and very patient throughout the whole process. He took time to really explain how taxes worked and was really helpful from start to finish. I won’t hesitate to return to them in the future!

3. LPA Accountancy

Address: 22 Milnpark St, Kinning Park

Business hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM–6 PM

My youngest sister freelances, so she needed LPA Accountancy for straightforward help minus the usual accounting fog. They operate on 100% digital practice, which appealed to my sis, as she gets intimidated by traditional paper-heavy firms.

They cover the bits that a freelancer usually frets about: Self Assessment support and bookkeeping, plus broader accounting help, payroll, tax planning, and business advisory if her workload grows.

They’re a good fit for startups, freelancers, and small businesses needing flexible support instead of a one-size-fits-all package. It also helps that the firm offers transparent monthly pricing bundles tailored to budget (handy for her, as her cash flow is still a bit delicate).

Their Kinning Park location suits clients wanting a Southside base with digital working on top. She now recommends them to other freelancers and early-stage business owners looking for practical tax help and cloud-style working.

However, for freelancers and small business owners who prefer lots of face-to-face hand-holding from a more traditional accountant, LPA’s fully digital practice may leave them cold.

Pros

  • Freelancer/self-employed-friendly firm
  • Strong VAT and HMRC problem-solving angle
  • Proper digital integration
  • Free 15-minute consultations via phone, video, or office meeting

Cons

  • Digital-first delivery might not suit those looking for paper-led accountancy
  • The Southside location may be inconvenient for clients needing something more central

Customer Reviews

The entire process was incredibly smooth

I highly recommend LPA Accountancy! They helped me with my identity verification for Companies House, and the entire process was incredibly smooth. Once I provided my details, they were very swift and efficient in getting everything confirmed. Muhammad was professional, proactive, and kept me updated throughout. Excellent service.

Very happy with the service

As a new client, great website. Quick response to all communications, appropriate advice, and rapid resolution of an important issue with an imminent deadline. Very happy with the service- I would use this company again and have no hesitation in recommending LPA Accountancy.

I have a former colleague who needed a VAT planner who (in her words) “would not leave things until the last minute.” Blyth Accountants stood out to her for their modern cloud-accounting practice and their aim to meet deadlines well in advance.

For VAT-heavy businesses like hers, Blyth is especially useful because they handle bookkeeping and VAT returns, as well as monthly or quarterly HMRC returns, using online tools. They also work with Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage: handy for smoother MTD-filing and better visibility over the numbers.

She likes how they offer a free initial consultation, too. Pricing-wise, their services are on a fixed-fee basis with a monthly Direct Debit, so it suits startups, SMEs, ecommerce firms, and cloud bookkeeping users who want fewer surprise bills.

They’re also a strong pick among clients wanting a city-centre accountant with digital systems already baked in. If you’re not a fan of old-school accounting faff and run a small business, this firm is worth checking out.

However, they may not be the best fit for clients who are unfamiliar or suspicious of cloud systems and app integrations. They’re not traditional accountants in that sense, and they can’t be expected to do a lot of hand-holding, either.

Pros

  • Emphasis on filing well ahead of deadlines
  • Strong for construction, ecommerce, and startup businesses
  • Convenient fixed-fee model with monthly Direct Debit
  • Offers cloud training and apps advisory

Cons

  • May not be a good fit for clients who dislike online tools
  • Less ideal for those who want a large corporate firm feel

5. Hawthorn Tax

hawthorn-tax

Address: 4 Newton Pl

Contact: +441414597969

Business hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30 AM–5.30 PM

Website

My brother’s last accountant left everything until the eleventh hour, much to his exasperation. Thankfully, Hawthorn Tax immediately sprang into action and started preparing financial statements and tax returns as soon as possible.

It helps that the firm fully uses cloud accounting software to give clients real-time financial information, and that its wider tone is bespoke and non-corporate (not stiff and generic).

He also appreciated their West End/near-city location, which is relatively convenient for most Glasgow clients. It was easy enough for him to book an initial consultation with them and ask for a proactive accountant to help him stay ahead of tax bills.

For services, they look strongest for owner-managed businesses like my brother’s. They cover accounts prep and bookkeeping, with directors bringing specialist tax strength in areas like profit retention, income tax reliefs, HMRC investigations, and property restructuring.

That said, because they lean quite heavily into specialist tax advice and bespoke work, some advisory projects may also cost more than a very basic small-business compliance package elsewhere.

Pros

  • Emphasis on starting financial statements and tax returns early
  • More specialist tax angles than small firms
  • Guidance on crypto tax and non-resident capital gains tax

Cons

  • Bespoke tax projects/advisory may feel too specialist for some
  • Incorporated in 2021 (still a young company)

Customer Reviews

The tax return was completed by Hyder within 48 hours

Just wanted to share what a positive experience I had with Hyder Fattah at Hawthorn Tax. I had a self-assessment tax return I needed to file before the end of this month, which was complicated by my experience working abroad on/off in the last tax year. I had a 60-minute consultation with Hyder to review all the details, and the tax return was completed by Hyder within 48 hours. Hyder’s communication was prompt and detailed, and he was able to address all my concerns. I would readily recommend Hawthorn Tax and Hyder. Thanks again so much!

It’s been such an easy, stress-free process working with him

Hyder was incredibly helpful from start to finish. Tax and money usually make me feel really anxious, but he took the time to talk everything through clearly and calmly, which made such a difference. From the very first conversation, he was kind, patient and reassuring, and I never felt rushed or judged for asking questions. It’s been such an easy, stress-free process working with him and his team, and I finally feel confident that my finances are in safe hands. I would highly recommend Hyder to anyone, especially if you find this stuff overwhelming.
