5 Best Tailors in Glasgow for a Fit That’s Truly Yours

✔ Services offered - We looked for tailors in Glasgow who can handle everyday fixes like hems, waists, and zips, plus trickier jobs like suits, jackets, and wedding outfits.

✔ Clear pricing - Tailors should give rough costs upfront: around £10 to £25 for basics, and up to £60 for structured garments, plus case-by-case quotes for bridalwear.

✔ Turnaround time - Good tailors are honest about timelines, usually 3 to 7 days, or longer for formal pieces.

✔ Rush options - Got a last-minute event? A reliable tailor in Glasgow offers speedy or same-day services, even with a surcharge.

From bridesmaid panic-fitting to look good for the wedding photographers, to a suit I had to wear for a funeral service, I’ve been to more alteration spots than I’d like to admit. After all, a great tailor can make the same outfit look like two completely different ones!

I swear, half my wardrobe has been unpicked and restitched somewhere in the city. When outfits matter, you want someone who can make your seams behave all day.

So think of this as your cheat sheet to the best tailors in Glasgow; the ones who can nail the fit, work fast, and won’t judge you for buying clothes two sizes too big, “just in case.”

How much does a tailor in Glasgow charge?

In Glasgow, alteration prices vary quite a bit depending on the garment type and the complexity of the work you need.
For everyday jobs like shortening trousers, hemming skirts, or taking in side seams, many local tailors charge from around £7 to £25 for basic tweaks (with shirts, jeans, and trousers often near the lower end of the range).
More detailed tailoring, such as altering jackets, formalwear, or wedding/special occasion dresses, can cost from £25 to £60, depending on fabric, vents, lining, and fittings required. Bespoke tailoring pieces are typically quoted on a case-by-case basis.

After realising the hem of my favourite cocktail dress hit somewhere between tea length and “awkward aunt,” I decided to bring it to Sew Easy. They pinned it in about half a minute and made me feel like this was a normal crisis, not a self-inflicted drama.

They handled it like pros. I saw everyday hem and waist tweaks on one side, and delicate fabrics and formalwear on the other (plus soft furnishing and leather!). Seeing wedding dresses and tailored suits queued up beside my off-the-rack dress reassured me I’d come to the right place.

The pricing was refreshingly clear for someone on a tight budget. My hem landed at around £10, which felt like a steal compared to buying something new. I also liked that nobody tried to upsell me extras while I was there.

The best part? They understood the urgency. It was done in just a couple of days, and they even offered a rush option if I truly panicked (which, knowing myself, I appreciated).

That said, they do get busy, especially during prom and wedding seasons, so walk-ins can mean a bit of a wait. And while prices are fair, anything with lining or beading can climb quickly, so make sure you get a proper quote first.

Pros

  • Handles both everyday fixes and formalwear
  • Clear pricing tiers
  • Reliable turnaround with rush options

Cons

  • Can get busy during prom and wedding season
  • Limited same-day slots

The jacket and trousers were altered to perfection

My sister’s wedding is in a few weeks, and we completely forgot to get alterations done on my husband’s suit jacket and trousers. None of the other alteration shops would take us in at such short notice. Easy Sew took my husband in for measurements and told us to come back in a few days. I initially thought we were going back for a fitting, but when we arrived, the jacket and trousers were altered to perfection and ready. Everyone working there was very pleasant and friendly. I would 100% go back and recommend this place to all my family and friends.

I’m very, very happy and will be back

Recently, I visited Sew Easy as I had a number of things I had to alter. I was served by Natasha with blonde hair, and she really took her time to make sure all the items were perfect. I also had to alter a skirt, which was a very challenging task to complete as I needed it to be 2 dress sizes bigger, and the material was tweed pinstripe. When I came back to try the skirt, I was shocked at how flawless it was; it looked brand new, like I had bought it in the correct size in the 1st place. Also, hats off to the tailor who did the work! Overall, I’m very, very happy and will be back.

My boyfriend decided to be the best man with a suit that fit as if it belonged to his dad. Finnieston Alterations took one look and immediately knew how to rescue it (and my dignity as his plus-one).

They reshaped the jacket, trimmed the sleeves, and fixed the trousers so he finally looked like he was wearing something made for his body. Watching them pin and chalk like surgeons made me feel oddly confident on his behalf.

The basic tweaks cost less, while the structured tailoring had higher fees, but the pricing was quite straightforward. They told us exactly what each fix would be and the corresponding cost, with no mystery fees lurking behind the lapels.

The turnaround was surprisingly quick, considering the wedding season chaos at the time. They even offered him a faster option just in case his waistline needed emergency alteration (thank goodness it didn’t).

However, you must book early as the place fills up fast. More complex suits can also take multiple visits, and anything patterned or has complicated structure climbs the price ladder quickly.

Pros

  • Expert at reshaping structured menswear
  • Gives tailored advice on what’s worth fixing vs replacing
  • Consistent craftsmanship

Cons

  • Appointments are essential (walk-ins rarely work)
  • Premium work = premium prices

Barbra’s prices are very fair, given the quality of her work

Barbra is an exceptionally talented tailor and designer. She did an amazing job with my wedding dress alterations, and from our first fitting, I knew I could trust her completely. She made the whole experience really relaxed. Barbra’s workmanship was excellent, and the dress fitted like a dream on the day, and I felt both comfortable and confident. I have since been back to Barbra to have a vintage jacket and skirt altered, and again, was so impressed by Barbra’s skill and attention to detail and am excited to wear my items now that they fit properly! Barbra is a lovely person, too and always enjoys our chats. Her studio is easy to get to in the heart of Finnieston and not far from the city centre either. Barbra’s prices are very fair, also given the quality of her work. Her own designs are also beautiful! Highly recommen,d and I wouldn’t go to anyone else for alterations.

She turned it into a completely new dress

Barbra altered my daughter’s dress for her 18th birthday party at the last minute. She took her beautiful dress and turned it into a completely new dress. She was amazing didnt rush us at the appointment, constantly in contact with me, and she is such a lovely person, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else now. 100 million perfect recommendations.

I pulled a gorgeous, floor-length vintage dress out of my mum’s closet, and as much as I love its pattern and look, I realised it needed a lot more than nostalgia to fit me and the occasion I was planning to wear it.

Esther May Owen didn’t flinch, thank goodness. She shortened the hem, shaped the waist, and somehow kept the original charm while giving it a far more modern silhouette. I liked how she treated it like a quiet challenge rather than a fabric disaster.

It was the perfect balance of respect for the dress and honesty about what needed changing. I also appreciated her clear quotes before anything got cut. Structural tweaks did cost more, but it’s still a lot cheaper than hunting shops for something half as unique.

There were no false promises, even when I wasn’t in a hurry to get the dress back. She said when it would be ready, and it was, and I found the turnaround time quite decent.

However, because she works carefully and not quickly, expect slots to be limited. Detailed vintage jobs like mine can take more time and cost more than a standard hem, and you’ll need to book ahead if you’re up against an event.

Pros

  • Skilled with vintage and sentimental garments
  • Thoughtful, unrushed approach
  • Balances preservation with modern tailoring

Cons

  • Careful, hands-on work = limited appointment slots
  • Vintage fabrics require longer timelines/multiple fittings

She takes her time for me to try on the adjusted clothes

Very friendly and especially good tailoring! She takes her time for me to try on the adjusted clothes until I am sure they are perfect. Not only have all my repairs been high quality and aesthetic, but after years, she still has trousers that she repaired for me, after I returned from abroad! Not only did she repair tears at the seams, but she even exchanged the torn pockets with beautiful fabric.

Fixed my jeans right there and then

Met the nicest guy working there! I had a loop on some jeans that had broken. He fixed it right there and then. Didn’t even charge me! Top guy and the jeans look great now!

My adorable nephew recently hit that fashion discovery phase where every jacket and hoodie apparently needs embroidery, patches, and half the Avengers cast stitched on. His & Hers didn’t blink, but just rolled up their sleeves and made pre-teen fashion magic happen.

They treated the custom add-ons with the same care as suit hems and dress tweaks, which made the little man feel like a proper fashionista. Watching them plan placements and thread colours felt more like art directions than basic alterations.

Thankfully for his mum, the small stitching jobs were on the lower end, though the more design-heavy embroidery work charged more. She appreciated how the tailors told her exactly what counted as “basic” versus “custom,” so there were no invoice grey areas.

They even handled one last-minute badge request without rolling their eyes, which honestly impressed me as much as their meticulous sewing.

Do note that decorative work can take longer than standard repairs, especially with customers like my nephew who keep changing their minds. Weekends can also get busy fast, so it’s best to book ahead.

Pros

  • Great with custom add-ons
  • Comfortable handling repairs for all ages
  • Clear distinction between standard fixes and personalised work

Cons

  • Decorative jobs can take longer
  • Limited capacity for weekend rush jobs

They did a fantastic job with my wedding dress

They did a fantastic job with my wedding dress at relatively short notice. Great communication. I will happily recommend this business to others. Thank you.

My best friend realised her wedding dress needed fixing only after every normal shop had shut for the day. Lucky for her, The Zip Yard didn’t raise an eyebrow at her after-hours audacity, but quietly sorted an out-of-hours fitting as if they did it all the time.

They handled the lace, lining, and zips without fear, and somehow made a dress that was “almost right” into one that truly belonged to her. Watching them adjust it layer by layer felt like seeing the gown breathing into life.

Her everyday alterations remained reasonable, with bridal work moving into the higher bracket without sugarcoating. Still, it was cheaper than ordering a replacement gown and praying it arrives in time.

They weren’t shy about rushing options when the clock started to feel loud. Being able to squeeze in fittings outside normal hours was the real lifesaver, though.

That said, bridal slots book up fast, especially leading up to June and December. Rush charges add up, as well, and highly detailed dresses can require multiple fittings. The earlier you start, the less you’ll sweat it.

Pros

  • Offers after-hours fittings
  • Strong handling of bridal fabrics and details
  • Quick turnaround with genuine rush options

Cons

  • Bridal appointments fill up fast
  • Rush services can increase the total bill

Kind and honest service

Had a jacket where the zip kept splitting open, so went in to get it replaced. They said the zip didn’t need to be replaced and fixed it within 5 minutes and sent me away with no charge! Kind and honest service will be returning.

Brilliant repair/alterations shop

Brilliant repair/alterations shop. I’ve taken 2 outdoor waterproof jackets in here recently, and the team have quickly repaired a broken zip and sewn up an internal pocket, without asking for a penny! Thank you.
