Score great deals at the best markets in Glasgow!

There’s nothing I love more than a good wander around Glasgow’s markets. I still remember the first time I found an old vinyl at The Barras I’d been hunting for ages—it felt like pure magic.

Our markets are full of moments like that. They’re not just places to pick up fresh food or cool finds. They’re where you’ll soak in the banter, feel the energy, and experience the lively vibe that makes them such an iconic part of the city.

To help you dive into the fun, I’ve rounded up some of the best markets in Glasgow. Happy exploring!

Operating hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (SAT and SUN)

Let’s start with Barras Market, the place where I managed to snag that one-of-a-kind vinyl I mentioned earlier. It was started in the interwar years by James and Maggie McIver and has since then grown into one of our city’s most iconic markets.

And it’s not hard to see why. There’s a bit of everything to be found here, whether it be antiques, vintage clothes, handmade crafts, fresh produce, or even some cracking street food.

Aside from the stalls, I also love how vibrant the atmosphere can be here every day. With the city council’s 15-year redevelopment plan in the works, it’s exciting to see how Barras Market will keep thriving as a hub of activity for years to come.

Pro tip: If this will be your first visit to Barras Market, don’t forget to check out their list of traders on this website. It’ll show you some useful tidbits about these shops as well as where to find them!

Blochairn Market

Address: City Property Markets, Blochairn Market Complex, 130 Blochairn Rd

Contact details: +44 141 287 2500

Blochairn Market has been part of Glasgow life since 1969 when it became the new home for the city’s fruit and veggie trade after moving from the old Candleriggs area. Nowadays, it’s one of Scotland’s biggest wholesale markets.

Since moving to Glasgow, Blochairn has been my go-to for fresh produce, flowers, clothes, and even handy household items. I can confidently say that you will always find something good here.

Another thing worth highlighting about this market is the Sunday car boot sale. Honestly, this weekly event has saved me a fortune. It’s packed with second-hand gems that cost next to nothing compared to their original prices.

Pro tip: If you’ve got items to sell, you can sign up as a trader for Blochairn Market’s Sunday car boot sale. It’s a great opportunity to declutter and make some cash. Visit this website to find all the details and get started.

The Forge Market

Address: 1201 Duke St

Contact details: +44 141 554 1395

Operating hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (THURS-SUN)

The Forge Market is quite special since it’s Scotland’s biggest purpose-built indoor market, with over 180 stalls packed with all sorts of stuff. Its name comes from the fact it was built on the site of the old Parkhead Forge steelworks.

I’ve visited a few times, and there’s always something that catches my eye. They have stalls selling fresh food, high-street fashion, homeware, and even services like key cutting.

But one spot that really stood out to me was Molly Malone’s, the seafood bar. Their mussels are just something else—sweet, fresh, and full of flavour. I didn’t expect to find seafood that good here, but I guess that’s just the charm of The Forge Market.

Pro tip: If you’re bringing kids, stop by the play area! The trampolines and bumper cars are a huge hit with the wee ones and will keep them happily entertained while you explore the stalls.

Park Lane Market

Website: https://www.parklanemarket.co.uk/

Address: Pollokshaws Rd

Operating hours: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (SUN)

Park Lane Market is one of those places you can’t help but love, especially if you’re into rare finds and quirky treasures. Located near Queen’s Park, it’s got this really cool vibe thanks to its colourful street art (street art Glasgow) and snug little lane setting.

Every time I visit, there’s always something different that catches my eye. That’s especially true when it comes to handmade crafts, as they have all these various kinds of jewellery, artworks, and homewares that feel one of a kind.

Then you’ve got the vintage stalls, packed with clothes and antiques that collectors won’t be able to resist. And let’s not forget the food. I’ll never forget picking up a loaf of sourdough here once; it was so good, it didn’t even make it home.

Pro tip: Got something to sell? You can set up your own stall at Park Lane Market for a £30 fee. Just email [email protected] to book your spot. It’s a great chance to share your items with the market crowd!

Partick Farmers Market

Address: Mansfield Park, Partick

Contact details: +44 141 287 2500

Operating hours: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (SAT)

If you’re after fresh, local produce, Partick Farmers Market is well worth the visit. Held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month, it’s a cracking spot to stock up on quality goods while enjoying a lovely atmosphere.

The stalls here are usually packed with seasonal vegetables, fruits, and herbs, all straight from farms near Glasgow. They’ve also got cheeses, chutneys, and homemade jams that are fresher than the ones you’ll get from the supermarket.

Although I’ve already got Blochairn market for the weekly shop, I can’t help but swing by here every now and then, especially for the food stalls. I like to grab a sausage roll, head to the nearby park, and enjoy people-watching.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to bring cash! While some stalls accept card payments, most are cash-only. It’s also handy to have smaller notes and coins for easier transactions, especially if you’re only picking up snacks or smaller items.

Shawlands Farmers Market

Address: 5 Langside Avenue, Shawlands

Operating hours: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (SAT)

Unlike the one in Partick, Shawlands Farmers Market takes place on the first and third Saturday of each month. But that’s where the differences end—this Southside spot also boasts an incredible variety of products that’s well worth exploring.

Here, you’ll find stalls brimming with fresh fruits and vegetables straight from local farms. There are also plenty of meat and dairy options, so it’s quite easy to stock up on quality ingredients each time you shop here.

And don’t skip the food stalls! If you’re after something tasty, I recommend checking out Three Sisters Bake. Their croissants are especially delicious, so I always end up taking a box home for a proper treat later on.

Pro tip: Don’t miss the sample stalls! Traders here love to share a wee taste of their goodies, and let’s be honest—you might walk away feeling like you’ve had a mini feast without cracking open your wallet.

Merchant Square Craft Market

Website: https://www.merchantsquareglasgow.com/

Address: 71 Albion Street

Operating hours: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM (SAT and SUN)

If you don’t fancy travelling far to find unique treasures, Merchant Square Craft Market has you covered—literally. It’s a fully covered market you’ll find right in the heart of Glasgow, so you can enjoy browsing without worrying about the weather.

Souvenir hunters, take note: this place is an absolute goldmine. You’ll find stalls packed with jewellery, sculptures, and artwork from talented local artists. There’s even vintage gear up for grabs if you love collecting stuff like that.

But to tell you the truth, the food court is my favourite part of the market. It’s packed with good options, like Sano for pizza or Momo Hub Mother Nepal for delicious Nepalese dishes. I come for the crafts but always stay for the food!

Pro tip: Merchant Square often hosts special events to keep their visitors entertained. To stay updated on their upcoming happenings, make sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram!
